Privilege leave (PL) is essentially ‘concessional leave’ that employees can avail of after working for a specific number of days. Similar to Earned Leave (EL), PL is granted in exchange for a set number of working days, with slightly different rules governing the accumulation of these leaves.

PL offers employees the flexibility to plan their time off for various personal reasons. Whether it’s spending quality time with family during school holidays or participating in special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries, PL allows individuals to balance their work and personal commitments effectively.

Officially known as official leave or official holiday, PL is a crucial entitlement for government employees, ensuring they have a designated number of days off each year to rest and attend to personal matters. The duration of PL granted to an employee is typically determined based on their qualifications and length of service, acknowledging their dedication and providing them with the necessary breaks to recharge and rejuvenate.

By understanding the significance of PL and its role in promoting employee well-being and work-life balance, individuals can make the most of their allocated leave days, enhancing their overall job satisfaction and productivity. So, feel free to explore the PL Form PDF and make use of your privilege leave to rejuvenate and enjoy those well-deserved breaks throughout the year.

Rules for Earned leave (EL) or Privilege leave (PL)

  • EL is typically provided to employees covered under the Factories Act in a company. The usual practice is to grant 1 EL for every 20 days worked, allowing for a total of 18 ELs to be taken within a year. However, the specific rules regarding EL can vary depending on the state and industry. Some companies may even offer more than thirty days of leave to their employees.
  • On the other hand, PL is accessible to employees working in shops or establishments governed by the Shops & Establishment Act. The standard practice is to provide 5 PL in exchange for every 4 months of work, allowing for a total of 15 PL to be taken in a year.
  • In situations where employees start or leave their job midway through the year, the pro-rata basis rule applies. This means that the leave entitlement is calculated proportionally based on the total number of working days, similar to Casual Leave (CL).
  • Understanding the distinctions between EL and PL can help employees navigate their leave entitlements more effectively and ensure they make the most of their allocated time off. By being aware of these leave policies and how they apply to different work settings, individuals can plan their leave effectively and maintain a healthy work-life balance throughout the year. So, feel free to utilize your earned leaves wisely and make the most of your well-deserved time off.
